The Doggy Doctor Online Learning Academy is for people who want to become dog trainers or dog behaviourists, as well as for dedicated, interested owners who want to understand their pets more.
I’ve been training dogs for over thir… a very long time. I set up this Professional Academy to help you build your knowledge and skill-set and develop a ‘can-do’ mindset so you’ll be confident of success in your new business. Or simply understand your own dog more.
Some of the courses available:
What to teach and how to teach it: This course covers how to teach the eight essential things all dogs should know as well as suggestions for other topics that are useful to teach, to help you set up your own successful business.
Business Basics: This course complements the Business Basics workbook. It takes you through the steps you’ll need to take to set up as a dog trainer. From making a plan to working out finances, getting yourself known to protecting yourself legally, it gives you what you need to know in order to set up and run a successful business.
How to Train Dogs: This 4 Module course covers the foundations of training: what owners need to know, how to teach a cue, the three stages of learning and the four key rules. It explains the eight ways to train any behaviour, and teaches you how to set your clients up for success.
Dog Trainer Building Blocks: This self-study course gives you a taster of the key things you need to know to become a great dog trainer: how to assess a dog’s TEMP, the importance of recognising arousal and stress, dealing with your own fear and an introduction to how dogs learn and what you need to be able to teach.
Some more advanced for those wanting more:
Canine Communication: This course gives you a good basic knowledge about how dogs communicate and explains how to put that knowledge into practical use so you can become effective trainers. It provides detailed and comprehensive insights into what dogs are saying to us – all the time – and why being able to “speak dog” will give you the confidence to manage and train dogs in a way they’ll fully understand.
Behaviour Basics: This course provides detailed insights into why dogs do what they do and why prevention is far, far better than cure. You’ll delve into the mysteries of how dogs (and humans) learn, how to assess behaviour and how to devise a plan to help with unwanted behaviours. It includes in-depth case studies of dogs who needed dog behaviourist help.
Handling Humans: Being able to help and teach people effectively is a key part of being a dog trainer. You’ll also learn how to handle yourself, including your reactions to others and to doing something new. Two thirds of budding dog trainers say they don’t have confidence in themselves – imposter syndrome is alive and kicking.
How Dogs Learn: In this 4-module course you’ll learn the key elements of effective learning, how you know when a dog has learnt something, why positive training works (and punishment doesn’t), why good training is like gambling, and how to solve any training problem you’ll meet.
